This is a fun filled lesson plan for an at-home activity that combines learning with baking! The goal of the experiment is to answer the question: how does changing the ingredients in a cookie affect the outcome? It includes 3 different recipes for small batches of chocolate chip cookies, as well as:
• A step by step, easy to follow lesson plan
• Pre-Bake Inquiry Question worksheet to make thoughtful predictions about the outcome
• Post-Bake Discovery worksheet to reflect on each outcome and draw conclusions based on specific experimental evidence
• A parent/teacher guide that includes extension questions and modification suggestions
I have included most of the ingredients pre-measured ready to go. The only ingredients you will need to supply are butter, eggs & vanilla extract.
This lesson is aligned to four Language Arts Common Core Standards for Scientific reading and writing (grade 5) and is great for kids in grades 2-6 (but is anyone too young or old for cookies, really?)
